HOLLYWOOD HILLS—A transient accused of being involved in the murder of a young woman was sentenced to prison on April 23.
Jason Joel Wolstone was sentenced to two years in state prison after pleading no contest to one count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily harm, according to Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Wolstone was charged for his part in the murder of 27-year-old Christine Calderon, who was stabbed to death outside the Hollywood & Highland Center on June 18, 2013.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Calderon had taken a picture of Wolstone, Dustin James Kinnear, 27, and Brian Joseph Widdows, 34. The transients then demanded that she pay them money for having snapped the photo. When she refused to pay, a fight broke out between the men, Calderon and a friend of hers. Wolstone was accused of pushing Calderon and placing her in a headlock before she was stabbed by Kinnear. Calderon was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Kinnear had been arrested over 40 times prior to the events of June 13. Seven of those arrests were for assault with a deadly weapon. In addition to having priors in Arizona, Kinnear was known to be an aggressive individual on the Walk of Fame.
Kinnear pleaded not guilty on June 21, 2013, to one count of murder with an allegation of personal use of a knife while Widdows pleaded not guilty on the same date to two counts of accessory after the fact. Both men are scheduled to appear in court June 4.
