MALIBU—On August 19, the city of Malibu announced residents can sign up for the city’s Free Community Emergency Response Team, known as CERT. The Public Safety Department will hold the training at the Malibu Library and will consist of six classes starting September 22.
Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. and run through October 8 at 23519 West Civic Center Way. The fourth class will occur on September 30. The final session, a drill, will be held on Saturday, October 10, at Malibu City Hall, located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Road from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Training helps residents prepare for disasters such as wildfires and earthquakes and support one another. The city government and other Los Angeles County public safety agencies oversee it. Topics covered include basic disaster preparedness, first aid, medical care, and proper fire extinguisher use.
Citizens interested in the CERT program can get more details and register by emailing PublicSafety@malibucity.org or visiting: www.MalibuCity.org/CERT
