SANTA MONICA—At 1:46 p.m., on Saturday, August 22, the Santa Monica Police Department announced an officer-involved shooting occurred in Palisades Park.
Officers arrived near the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue, after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident. As they collected statements from witnesses, a man carrying a knife and not connected to the people involved in the domestic incident charged at the officers. It forced one of the officers to fire a sidearm striking the man.
The officer was not injured. Paramedics with the Santa Monica Fire Department provided medical attention to the man, who was taken to a local hospital and later died. The name of the individual has not been disclosed to the public.
This investigation is ongoing. The SMPD asked residents to avoid the area, which remains an active crime scene, as investigators are in the preliminary stage and working to preserve evidence.
