LOS ANGELES—Wednesday, June 17 was officially declared “Mad Men Day” in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles City Council.

About 20 members of the cast and crew, including creator Mark Weiner, met at Los Angeles City Hall where they were thanked for their significant contributions to Los Angeles. An award was presented to Weiner and a short 20-minute montage of the show was screened during the ceremony.

The Emmy-winning series, which aired its final season in spring on AMC, was set in New York, but shot in Los Angeles. Councilman Paul Krekorian said that the show provided many steady jobs and added around 200 million to the local economy during its seven season run on TV. Weiner is said to have been inspired for the show by the city.

“Los Angeles is my muse, and I would have never have thought of the show if I didn’t live here among all these buildings from this period,” said Weiner.
