UNITED STATES—As adults we learn in life that you have to take care of your health. That begins with what we eat. We live in a time period in 2026, where we are lazy. I hate to say it, but we are lazy as Americans. We want quick and fast, and as a result that can lead to bad habits, habits that are not easy to change.

I’m learning when I’m super stressed or there is too much going on, I tend to go for the quick fix, instead of properly thinking about what I am eating. It amazes people till this day find it fascinating that I have given up drinking soda or pop (depends on what part of the country you’re from people). Haven’t had any in more than 3 years, nearing 4 years in October. Funny thing, I don’t miss it, nor do I want it.

Its filled with sugar, carbs and calories, all things not good for the body. So I have found a better alternative with water, milk and drinks that are not loaded with sugar or calories. Do I miss it? I would be lying if I told you that I was not, but the strongest temptation was the first week without it, 3 years later, its like an afterthought.

This is not just about soda, this is about the foods we eat on a general basis. Americans are indulging in too many ultra-processed foods which is the absolute worse for our bodies. We are putting things inside of us that we shouldn’t even have inside of us. This brings me to the issue of artificial colors, things that are in the foods to make them more enticing and inviting, but guess what: you don’t see that in the products overseas. Why is that?

Their governments don’t allow it, but here in America it doesn’t seem to be an issue because its big corporations doing it, all the while knowing it is harming the health of Americans, but we live in a world where its all about wealth and making money. As a result, people don’t realize the dangers going into their bodies until its too late.

We don’t like to cook, and because we don’t like to cook, we are placing ourselves in health jail because by the time we realize something is wrong it is already too late. Can you reverse some of the danger already inside our bodies? To a degree, but once things have already gone too far, you cannot reverse the clock, so the goal should be to take action early and limit the consumption.

You may want to go for that bag of chips, but how about going for a fruit or veggie instead to satiate your craving. It may not always be the tastiest, but your body will indeed thank you later. The key is once you start to build that habit it becomes a lifestyle change; one that becomes a normal part of your life.
