UNIVERSAL CITY—A new attraction that many have been waiting for at Universal Studios Hollywood has finally opened: “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.” Fans of the famous book series by J.K. Rowling will enjoy getting the chance to take a trip to Hogwarts and the town of Hogsmeade.

On Thursday, April 7 a grand opening ceremony was held at the new attraction. Many celebrities attended the grand opening ceremony, including Vanessa Hudgens and Billy Bob Thorton, as well as some of the cast members from the Harry Potter movie franchise.

“People do go up there in robes to get a chance to be a kid again,” said Evanna Lynch who played Luna Lovegood in the movies.

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, said, “You start with Joannne [J.K. Rowling]. She created this amazing world that allows kids and adults alike to tap into something magical, whimsical and maybe stepping outside of the Muggle world.”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also attended the event and noted that he has six wands at his office in City Hall. The President of Universal Studios Hollywood, Larry Kurzweil, introduced composer John Williams who played the Harry Potter theme song during the ceremony as a video projection show played on Hogwarts and fireworks exploded in the background.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will contain rides, attractions, shops and food. The main ride is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in 3D. The attractions include a Triwizard Spirit Rally and a Frog Choir. At the shops guests can shop for their own wands at Ollivander’s and try Butterbear at the Three Broomsticks restaurant.
